P&I organises briefing on UMP Research Fund Grants

PEKAN, 20 October 2021 - The Research and Innovation Department organised an online briefing session on Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) Research Fund Grants through Microsoft Teams to provide the latest inputs related to improving guidelines for UMP research grants.

The briefing was delivered by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Professor Ts. Dr. Kamal Zuhairi Zamli, Dean of Research, Professor ChM Dr. Mohd Hasbi Ab Rahim, Dean of Industry Innovation, Associate Professor Dr. Abdul Adam Abdullah and representative for Dean of Commercialisation, Nurul Haida Idrus.

According to Professor Ts. Dr. Kamal Zuhairi, the improvement of the UMP research grants guidelines is an initiative to redesign the research grants offered through UMP funds to cover the entire needs that include research, innovation and commercialisation.

“This initiative also breaks through the Technology Readiness Level (TRL) one to nine which involves basic research, generation of new ideas and concepts, prototype and product development, pre-commercialisation and commercialisation.

“Besides that, it aims to support initiatives and activities towards the success of the UMP25 Strategic Plan for Strategic Objective 2: Innovation with Industry Collaboration and Strategic Objective 3: Exploration of High Impact Technology.

“We also want to encourage the cultivation of research and the transfer of knowledge and technology generated at UMP.

“In addition, we want to expand and strengthen knowledge and produce quality publications and recognised products,” he said.

He added that the improvement was also to highlight UMP research grants and finance governance with clear and detailed guidelines and monitoring of high-impact research output.

In the briefing, P&I hoped that the offering of various research grants through the UMP fund would produce sustainable initiatives to drive the development of university research and innovation.
