UMP, UNITEN to explore energy-related strategic collaboration
PUTRAJAYA, 9 January 2023 - The recent visit of the Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) delegation to Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) would share expertise in establishing collaboration in terms of academics, technology, expertise and others, especially related to energy.
The delegation led by the UMP Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin with the top management of the university was welcomed by the Vice-Chancellor of UNITEN, Professor Ir. Dr. Noor Azuan Abu Osman.
Also in attendance represented UNITEN were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic & Research), Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Mohd Zamri Yusoff, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), Associate Professor Dr. Abdul Aziz Mat Isa, Chief Operating Officer, Associate Professor Ts. Dr. Mohd Ezanee Rusli and Registrar’s Director, Tuan Haji Zulkarnain Md Nor.
According to Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie, the visit provided an opportunity for both university managements to explore collaboration especially in digital development, research, and collaboration in expanding TVET programmes in both universities.
Partnership and collaboration in financial sustainability, industrial grants, smart campus and green campus were also discussed to achieve environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) initiatives in line with sustainable development goals (SDGs).
Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie also shared the university’s achievements in ranking and graduate employability which reached 98 per cent this year.
Meanwhile, according to Professor Ir. Dr. Noor Azuan, as a university with a niche of expertise in the field of energy, UNITEN focuses research to explore aspects of energy transition covering issues of climate change, sustainable development and renewable energy resources at the national and global levels.
He said UNITEN would establish a National Energy Centre (NEC) as a proactive effort to contribute expertise among researchers towards the national development agenda.
Through the establishment of this national centre of excellence, five centres of excellence are placed under NEC, namely the Institute of Sustainable Energy (ISE), Institute of Power Engineering (IPE), Institute of Energy Infrastructure (IEI), Institute of Energy Policy and Research (IEPRe) and Institute of Informatics and Computing in Energy (IICE).
During the visit, delegates also had the opportunity to visit the Institute of Sustainable Energy (ISE), UNITEN Customer Centre (UCC) and around the campus.
UMP is in the plan of a benchmarking visit to the Government-Linked Universities (GLU) which proved to be outstanding in ratings and consistent at the national and world levels.
