UMP signs SARE agreement with TNB and GSPARX

PEKAN, 15 March 2023 - Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) signed a supply agreement with renewable energy (SARE) with Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) and TNB Renewables’ wholly-owned subsidiary, GSPARX Sdn. Bhd. in a recent ceremony at the UMP Pekan Banquet Hall.

At the ceremony, UMP Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin signed a memorandum of agreement (MoA) with TNB represented by Chief Retailer Officer, Kamal Arifin A. Rahman while GSPARX Sdn. Bhd. was represented by its Managing Director, Elmie Fairul Mashuri.

According to Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie, the collaboration agreement between UMP, TNB and GSPARX is regarding the installation of a 3.58 megawatt-peak solar system that will be implemented at the UMP Pekan campus to realise the country’s sustainable agenda.

“The solar system will be installed on the roof of buildings, parking lots and also a small part of UMP lake.

“This three-way collaboration will also be utilised by UMP associates by studying solar technology more deeply that is actively developed in our country.

“In addition, UMP graduates will be better prepared for the circulation of new renewable energy technologies,” he said.

In the meantime, the 20-year collaboration is expected to provide added value to UMP associates in achieving a sustainable agenda towards a Carbon Neutral Country by 2050.

In fact, the joint venture will also save electricity consumption in line with the state government’s desire to increase energy generation through renewable energy to 20% by 2025 and thus make UMP a low-carbon university.

He further added, UMP is a university of technology and engineering that always aspires to be an innovative and competitive university globally.

Therefore, he always welcomes the collaboration networking with industry partners in developing agreed programmes and activities for mutual benefit.

He believed that the expertise and technology of this collaboration would further enhance the success of high-impact programmes and open up more opportunities and exploration to other relevant areas.

UMP greatly appreciates the commitment from the industry partners in continuing to make UMP a partner to drive excellence and shared strategic needs.
