Saya terpanggil untuk memberikan respons kepada rencana yang bertajuk ‘Startling Rice in Measles Cases’ yang diterbitkan dalam akhbar ‘The Star’ pada 4 Mac 2023. Sepatah ayat daripada artikel tersebut membuatkan saya risau, iaitu ‘Although measles vaccination reached 95 per cent each year, five percent (about 20,000 to 25,000) of the eligible children remained unvaccinated every year. Over the years, this number snowballs, and they remain susceptible to measles’.

The number of children with disabilities is increasing every year. This trend is expected to continue, with even more children expected to be diagnosed in the coming years. According to the Department of Social Welfare, there are 152,065 registrations for persons with disabilities (OKU) status as of January 2023. The term disability refers to a range of different conditions, such as learning disabilities, mental disabilities, physical disabilities, multiple disabilities, visual impairments, hearing impairments, and speech impairments.

The safety and environmental issues surrounding the operation of the Lynas plant in Gebeng, Pahang, have once again become a topic of public debate as the time for Lynas’ operating license renewal approaches. 

This is not the first time such a debate has taken place; it happens every time the license is up for renewal. The debate becomes even more heated, particularly when it resurfaces near election season or during a change of government.
